Thorough Pune Travel Guide

Once the centre of power of the Maratha Empire, Pune is known to have existed as a town since 847 A.D. and was originally known as Punawadi!   Known as the cultural capital of Maharashtra with activities like classical music, spirituality, theatre, sports, and literature, an academic achiever’s paradise, as well as a humming industrial hub and town epitomizing prosperity, it is but natural that this cosmopolitan city is constantly teeming with humanity!

Against this backdrop, it is imperative to enrich one’s mind by acquainting oneself with its rich historical and cultural legacy, through the guidance of a well documented Pune Travel Guide!
Perhaps it would only be fitting to begin our journey of discovery with the Chaturshringi Temple, a Hindu temple, the presiding deity of which is Goddess Chaturshringi or Goddess Ambareshwari, also considered the presiding deity  of the city of Pune!   Believed to have been built during the reign of the Maratha Chhatrapati Shivaji Raje Bhosle, thousands of devotees gather here to worship on the eve of Navratri, when a huge fair is held annually!

The Chaturshringi temple, 90 feet high and 125 feet wide, and a symbol of power and faith, is reached after climbing a 100 arduous steps! The temple premises contain temples of Goddess Durga and Lord Ganesh, including eight miniature idols of Ashtavinayaka. These small temples are located on the four separate hillocks.
Another place which is a must-see is the unique Aviary-cum-Birds Research Centre known as Konark Park which houses the most unusual and beautiful species of birds from different parts of the world, put together lovingly by Dr Suhas Jog!

The Tribal Museum, The Bund Garden, Pune University, the 18th century carved and comprehensive Shinde Chhatri Complex and the Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum containing over 20,000 artifacts personally collected by Baba Kelkar, including armours made of fish scales and crocodile skin, pistols, long barreled muskets, daggers, shields, swords and small cannons, umpteen musical instruments for music lovers, terracotta, copper and brass household vessels, painting in manuscripts et al!
Flexible, comfortable and economically priced Serviced Apartments in Pune allow you to enjoy these pleasures in abundant measure!
